Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year, and each year I get so excited about decorating for the holidays. I’m always looking for fresh and modern ideas, and each year I like to try something different from the previous one. However, Christmas is an expensive time of the year, so I’m always sharing ideas with family on how to decorate for the holidays on a budget. These are some of my favorite modern decor ideas for your home this Christmas.
Minimalistic Decor
When you think of Christmas, a bustling house full of bright decorations often comes to mind. If you are looking for chic Christmas décor ideas this year, an understated set of decorations is the way to go. While it’s always fun to have decorations in every corner of your home, they can be a pain to tidy away at the end of the holiday season. Consider a modern Christmas tree, which will generally be smaller and less decorated than typical ones. Remember less is more, so a few key pieces such as wreaths, plants and garlands will be enough to transform your home without creating a tacky display this year.
Repurpose your Bookshelf
If you have a bookshelf as a focal point in your home, consider using it in a different way for the winter season. Gift-wrap your books in fun, modern Christmas prints, and they’ll make a pretty seasonal display. Add to that a few small adornments, and you’ll have a stylish and fresh way to decorate for the season.
Chrismas Tree Alternative
If you live in an apartment, interior decoration ideas for the holidays can be difficult. If you don’t have space for a Christmas tree, don’t worry! A fun alternative is taking pine branches and placing them in a large jar of water. Then you can simply decorate them like you would a tree with baubles. It’s a really fun and festive interior design idea that will take up far less space than a tree.
Winter Wonderland Decor
Christmas decorations don’t have to all be red, gold and green. How about choosing a classy all-white color scheme this year? You can even get white Christmas trees now! Disguise your furniture with white woolen throws and cushions, and add white and silver touches around your home. It still gives you the wintry feel, without going overboard with the usual rainbow of Christmas colors.
Rustic Decor
If you live in the middle of a city, but want to feel like you are escaping to the countryside this year, consider rustic modern Christmas decorations. This can actually be a very inexpensive way to decorate. Use wooden logs, fallen branches, strings of lights and vintage decorations to pull off this look.
All of the ideas above will cost very little to decorate your home this season. For most of them, you’ll have items at home already that you can use as part of your decorating. The holidays are such a wonderful time of year, but you don’t need to go overboard or spend a fortune to have a beautifully decorated home this Christmas.
